The two myths about Personal Development
The two myths about Personal Development
Before going into the two myths of personal development, it
is important to know that all the terminologies such as personal development,
personal grooming, persona growth, self-improvement and personality grooming
they give the same meanings and in this article they are used as synonyms.
Myth No.1
When it comes to the personal growth or development, as I
realised that mostly people think it is just one time effort and you improve
yourself and then there is no further need for improving and developing, but it
is a wrong concept. Self-improvement is a life-long process of improving
yourself.
Therefore, we must understand the real concept of personal development; it is not a one point agenda but a process which goes on. It includes habits, sometimes we leave old habits as the time passes and there may be need for embedding new habits. So therefore, when we think of personal development we have to think as a continued process of improvement and growth.

Myth No.2
As a keen observer and having interaction with different kind
of people from all fields of life, I think the terminology ‘personal
development’ is misunderstood and misinterpreted. As a basic definition,
personal development means, improving and developing oneself.
Once Jim Rohn’s teacher said to him that, ‘work hard on yourself rather than on your job’. This means that improve yourself when you do so your work or job will be improved in the same way. It is quite understandable that personal development means personal improvement but many people do not know the real concept of personal improvement, and do not know the attributes and aspects of personal development. This is the biggest myth about personal development.

We think if a person is good looking, nice face, having nice
clothes it means the person has a good personality and groomed well, physical
aspect is one of the aspects of personality or personal development. It is very
important to know the whole aspects of personality development.
In literature, we find different traits of personality, but
these are more or less similar. These attributes or traits are such as;
1. Mental aspect
2. Social aspect
3. Physical aspect
4. Moral aspect
5. Spiritual aspect
As mentioned by Jim Rohn the important aspects of personal
development. In order to have a groomed personality, an individual should
improve these aspects.
1. Spiritual
2. Physical
3.
Mental
The myth about personal development is, people think it means
only physical look or aspect but it is a composite terminology which includes
different attributes as mentioned above. When we think about self-improvement
there is need to work on all aspects of personal development.
